updates!

ha. i was kinda overreacting in the last post, so if u guys are afraid or worried for me, dont ya?

anyway, the hours are shiong. patrol vessels work on a multi crew system..which basically means there are 2 teams of people, each able to operate independently..so when one team sails, the other team rests..and vice versa. but since i am under training, my officers feel that it is of good training value that i sail with both teams..so voila! I SAIL VERY OFTEN. not that im spiteful..but most of the time im super tired. the hours when im sailing is i keep 6 on 6 off..6 hours of shift then rest..then 6 hours again..each sail trip takes 3 days 2 nights..so guys, if im not able to make it for meetings, im very very sorry once again.

but, the sailings are fun..at times. its very operational.. we sail to pedra branca. and oftentimes, we meet up with M's__ of Ind____'s ships. so yeap..we get to like play cat and mouse with them..or we get to go investigate ships pr crafts suspected of smugglin etc. so things get quite interesting. and the crew on my ship are very nice. the first sailing when i got really seasick cos the sea state over at indo's side is really rough, they offered sweets and many tips about how to stay calm and not puke. yeap..so things arent really that bad. plus they are like a family. just before steerin the ship to make a u-turn ( in layman's terms), they will shout down to the kitchen to warn the chef cos once when they forgot to, the chef had soup spilt all over the floor..haha

so thats all for now guys..meanwhile, please do stay cheerfuL! its always good to be optimistic. kummi: i didnt scold u la, it was a gentle reminder.. hongy: was so happy to hear from u in church...dont feel dry ya. the Lord will always enrich u. joycie: so sorry i haven been able to entertain your outing requests! maybe now u know why. chicken: no hear from u so long! so happy to talk to u over msn that day..happy to know that u're so involved in arts work..just dont tire yourself that much k! shoes: still missing u..hang in there though studies tiring n tough, will see u soon. rah mei: hurry hurry update us! dont just stick around with ur darling!! naz: happy to hear from u..stay strong and smile.

thts all guys. mwAH`

From NYC

Hello ppl! Charlene scold me for not updating so finally im getting the chance to!

Im settling in very well here. Im already quite used to the type of life here. My few complains are:
1) one cent coins are so irritating and they always sell things with weird numbers like 98Cents stuff like that
2) They dont include tax in their stuff so u always end up paying more even tho u think something is cheap
3) singapore is so much cleaner!
4) my msn is not working here

But there are lotsa stuff i like too! Like the library has lotsa comics and art books available for free. NYC is a big happening place lotsa things to explore. I only had one class painting so i cant comment on the teachers yet.

I got to see ruomei last week, kept buggin her to come out. we went for lots of chinese food like dim sum, and ate hot pot at her bfs place. QUite fun ok! They are prolly having lotsa fun in disney world here, leaving me all alone in NY.

The ppl here are quite friendly but i dunno how im gonna find some real friends tho, cuz in uni u have different classes all the time.

Im looking for a church that is missions/evangelically minded, cares for the poor and needy, has real brotherhood kinda fellowship. I hope i find what im looking for. Theres so much stuff going on here, and im reading a book that zhenni gave me called 'if not for the grace of God' I keep forgetting that im here cuz of God's grace and his grace will supply every need and im called to depend on and believe in him. I really hope i dont lose focus on why im here which i dunno yet but i figure it mustve soemthing to do with God. One good thing is im alone alot so i get to talk to God alot.

Hope you all will continue to share your stuff here. Nice to see u on the army website charlene... u made such a classic charlene comment i laughed when i saw it. HOng!!! U better meet up the next time i come back or even better come ehre and visit. Naz, keep us updated about ur dad ok? Hope things arent too bad for you. JJ WHERE ARE YOU?? Shoes nice talkin to u... and joyce get well soon!

tough times

as the bible says...God puts in place trials and tribulations in your life so that u can emerge so much a stronger person. how true is that when i received my posting onboard a patrol vessel. for ur info, there are missile corvettes(which have many deplyoments overseas), MCMVs( mine countermeasure vessels which have very posh and comfortable accomodation and a very slack sailing schedule) and Patrol Vessels. PVs are very commonly out at sea, probably every other day, and it sails for 2-3 days straight. and they are on high alert all of the time, which means even if your ship is at harbour u stay in. and living conditions are cramped, which means like 2-3 people share a bed. when one is on watch, the other sleeps in it.

the ship itself aint that bad. my ship's XO (2nd in command on the ship and in charge of manpower issues) is sexist. he saw me and exclaimed, how come yet another girl?

the day i reported to work, totally green and full of expectations, they said u have any constraints today? can u stay in and do harbour duty? and we are sailing tomoro and the day after. today is wednesday. with this, ill be home next on sat afternoon. but at least i get my birthday free. ive resorted to these little perks. oh, and ill be sailing on hari raya and chinese new year too.

my new year resolution is to be oh so optimistic. im trying, trust me, i am. but it aint easy and it aint gonna be. ill be very busy. if i get to come out and rest once in a week, away from the ship, its gonna be a miracle. but im gonna suck it up till june/july when i get to clear leave. meantime, everyone, no matter what comes your way, tough times don't last, tough men do. love u guys.
